This navy and off-white polka dots fit and flare late 1950s or early 1960s dress by Suzy Perette is made of crisp rayon taffeta, and shown here with a large, fluffy crinoline under the very full skirt (not included). The fitted bodice has a wide, scoop neckline adorned with a decorative, fabric-covered button/flap detail, and short, ruched sleeves. Curved seaming creates a shelf-bust effect, with multiple vertical panels below that narrow to shape the waist, and then widen to create the full skirt. A skinny, self-fabric belt cinches the waist above the wide, sweeping skirt. The dress fastens in back with a metal zipper. The waist area is lined with off-white muslin-textured interfacing, which has a stain that does not show through to the polka-dotted fabric. The original ivory taffeta, soft crinoline/skirt lining has been removed from the dress, but I will include it with your purchase, in case you’d like to reattach it. In very good condition, the dress has a few issues: the above-mentioned stain on the lining at the waist area, some rough stitching on the diamond-shaped insets at the underarms (no holes or pulling), a few small small discolorations on the skirt below the front waist and a larger area of hard-to-see discoloration at the right front skirt hem. I personally think these do not detract from the wearabilty of this lovely 1950s cocktail dress, but you should zoom in on the photos to get a good look. The taffeta fabric is sturdy and held up well to a recent dry-cleaning. The manufacturer Suzy Perette is known for their “New Look” style, cinched-waist 1950s dresses, and this is a nice example!
