1950's LUCITE FLORIDA HANDBAG

This is a Beauty with a Shiny Black Base and a Clear Carved Lid!! The lid has reverse carved leaves and a flower design in the middle. The hardware is brass, and the turn closure is very easy to open and close. It has four little lucite feet on the bottom. The lucite has been shined and the brass polished. The last two photograph best represent the Metal Closure.

Some history of the Florida Handbag Company: In 1953 Florida Handbags produced their first collection of lucite handbags. They were very colorful, like Miami Beach. In the 50's the women were vacationing in Miami Beach. These ladies were dressed impeccably with a matching ensemble, and this had to include a matching handbag and shoes. It is no wonder that Miami was a test market for these lucite handbags. This company continued producing lucite handbags long after their other Florida counterparts. Their last editorial appeared in "Handbags and Accessories" in March of 1960. It was a clear, long carved handbag.
