Beautiful little black velvet beret from the 1950's. Styled to lay close to the crown with a front unseamed cuff. Left side holds a black satin cockaide with a center row of clear rhinestones.
Interior is finished with a black acetate and ribbon trim.

Inner circumference is 22 inches. Measuring on the outside, side to side is 14 inches. There is a size tag of 22 1/2.

As for the condition I think it may be missing a feather or an ornament of some type. Just above the cockaide is a covered corkscrew wire that possible held something at one time. It looks fine as is but you could add something there. Otherwise it is in excellent condition. The velvet is without flaw.

Label is The J. L. Hudson Detroit. The J.L. Hudson Company was a large retail department store chain that originated in Detroit Michigan in 1881. The store grew to a 25-story structure that was the world’s tallest department store until 1961. Interesting fact: In 1960 the downtown store hired its first African American bus girl, a high school student named Diana Ross who would later make musical history.
