1950s black and white party dress. Bodice is a black rayon with seamed bodice, completely lined. Short sleeves are dolman style with ruching and underarm gussets. Waist is wide and also ruched. Neckline is scoop in the front and a deep V in the back, closing with a long metal zipper.
Skirt is full chiffon over an acetate lining, embellished with swirls of black sequins.
There are some condition issues. The bodice drops lower on left side which you can see in the photos. It would need a repair by a seamstress. The skirt lining has about 4 age spots which do get lost in the folds of the skirt. The top layer of chiffon has 2 small areas of soiling and a single 1 inch area where the sequins are loose.
Label is Miss Elliette. The following information is provided courtesy of the Vintage Fashion Guild Label Resource. Miss Elliette was a label owned and designed by Elliette Ellis. After studying at the Traphagen School of Fashion and working for a dress manufacturer, Ellis started her own line in 1952. She made mid-priced dinner and cocktail dresses that were very feminine, even in the 1960s and 1970s when fashion had moved in a different direction. Despite this, the line was very successful. The Miss Elliette label lasted into the 1990s.
