DETAILS: This late 1950s/early 1960s cocktail dress is red hot! It's a sheath dress that hugs the curves of the body with princess seaming and interesting piecing for the short sleeves. That lets the amazing print take center stage.
SIZE: No size label
Bust - 35" (89cm)
Shoulders - 17" (43cm)
Waist - 31" (78. 75cm)
Hips - 37" (94cm)
Bodice length - 16" (40. 5cm)
Skirt length - 24" (61cm)
Sweep - 45" (114. 25cm)
FABRIC/COLORS: Medium weight fabric with a dry hand, probably a cotton/rayon blend based on a fiber burn tests. It reminds me a bit of hopsacking with the slight slubbing and fairly coarse weave, but it isn't rough to the touch. The oversized print looks natur-ish, although I can't quite decide if it's meant to be flowers or autumn leaves. Colors used are shades of rust red to scarlet, shades of chestnut brown and dark brown against black. The dress is fully lined with a crisp black chiffon type fabric.
TAGS: Georgia Bullock, California. Also, a shop tag for Balliets, Oklahoma City, Okla.
CLOSURES: Long nylon Talon zipper in back.
CONDITION: An area of the lining is torn - it's below the waist to the left of the back center seam. I have hand stitched it to hold it in place during wear. Not seen unless you turn the dress inside out. No other issues noted.
