Label: Genuine Peccary Pigskin Table Cut; Styled and Tailored by Joseph Perrella

Perrella’s leather-working business was located in Gloversville NY, once the center of the glove industry here in the USA, from the colonial era until the late 20th century.

Labeled as “pigskin” on their paper hangtag, these golden tan 1950s-60s deadstock leather gloves are actually made from peccary skin, as stamped on the inside. Peccary leather is extremely soft, yet durable and long lasting with reasonable care. Used most often for luxurious gloves, peccary leather can be recognized by the repeating pattern of hair pores, in groups of 3. “The legal hunting of peccaries is strictly controlled by CITES guidelines, ensuring that they are not overhunted. This means that the peccary leather, if sourced legally, is sustainable and will not harm the environment. This also ensures that the supply of peccary hides is restricted, thus making it more valuable.” (from bestleather.org). The gloves are just a bit longer than wrist-length. They have “fourchettes” (gussets) sewn between each finger, for better dexterity when worn—they would make great driving gloves! In excellent to mint condition, unworn, these supple leather gloves widen slightly from the wrist to hem, in a subtle, “gauntlet” style.
