50s/60s 5-diamond "cat Ear" Palladium 14k Ring Band$195.00
Wonderful, slightly offbeat ring for a wedding band, anniversary, or engagement ring ... Five sparkly diamonds are set into a band that rises from the center outward into points that look to me like cat ears. Nice carving on the sides, too. This works well with art deco styles, MCM, and avant garde.
Here's a feature you don't see very day: It has a sort of "kickstand," a retractable spacer that will theoretically hold it slightly apart from the ring next to it when you extend the kickstand. You can also fold the spacer back into the band--but then it might irritate your finger by pressing against your flesh. You could also just have this clever piece of engineering removed! I'm sure a jeweler would be happy to do it.
Marked PADI FR 14K, meaning it's palladium over 14K white gold. Since white gold is an alloy made with a little nickel, palladium is sometimes used to plate it and protect people with sensitivities.
The five diamonds are 1.0 to 1.25 mm wide each, brilliant cut, good clarity.
The total weight of this ring is 2.1 grams.
This IS a vintage item, so it won't look as if it were made yesterday. It does look fabulous--but it isn't new. It is in terrific vintage condition. The metal gleams and the diamonds sparkle, as you'll see in the video. I'm not sure how much the original owner wore it, but you might want to have it cleaned; there is perhaps a little dinginess down inside the top of the band, behind the stones. I can't get a good photo of that.
Fun fact: Palladium is a byproduct of platinum refining, so it's a metal that causes relatively low stress to the environment to produce.
From a nonsmoking, pet-loving household. The cats don't wear jewelry, but they might help me tape up a package.
Thank you for looking!
