Label: Laura Hubka Millinery, Chicago
This fuchsia wool velour hat with veil by Chicago milliner Laura Hubka from the early 2000s is very much in the style of 1950s hats, with its rounded, shallow crown, bright pink chin-length veil, and lavish trim including: pink and green silk velvet flowers, a pink striped silk ribbon bow, and darling, artificial raspberries. A narrow band of moss green wool velour separates the shallow crown from the small, curved brim that frames the face. The hat is designed to sit a bit back on the head, as shown, although it could also be worn tilted farther forwards, if preferred. The materials and construction are both lovely—the equal to many fine vintage hats that I have encountered in my 25 years of selling! It is unlined, and in excellent to mint condition, with no issues to note. Hubka’s newly made hats run in the $300-$400 range, so this secondhand, vintage-style hat is a steal!
