Striking black and white classic 1950's silhouette dress by Pat Hartly. There are no tags beside the manufacturer, but I believe the top of the dress is a stretchy black wool jersey and the skirt is a striped taffeta acetate. The top has a boat neck and dolman short sleeves (there are no shoulder seams). The bodice has darts to shape nicely in front, but the back is the star attraction! Square and quite low, it fastens all the way to the skirt hem with large round buttons on a vertical striped placket. The stripes run horizontal on the rest of the skirt. You can't see it when worn, but the placket is faced with black velvet. Little touches like that show the care that went into the design of this fab dress! Hook and eyes secure the waist too. Another amazing detail is the accordion pleated fabric that flairs out above the waistband, really head turning! Skirt is pleated at the waist and ends below the knee. I did not photo with a petticoat, but if you want more width you could use one. One of a kind, 1950s couture dream dress!
