50’s-60’s Heraldic Pendant Necklace & Earrings

This heraldic design enameled metal pendant necklace and earrings set is fit for a queen! Circa 1950s or early 1960s, the set includes a chunky, shield-shaped pendant with crossed swords, topped with a second lion. The pendant hangs from a textured gold metal chain, and the matching screwback earrings dangle from tiny shields. Featuring a lion rampant, as well as a crown and stripes, the heraldic design does not represent any particular royal house, but it looks vaguely British, and very royal, doesn't it? In traditional heraldry, the lion represents courage, nobility, royalty, strength, and valor; since it is the king of beasts, this seems appropriate! The necklace fastens with an unusual hook clasp. The red and deep blue enamel work is nicely done, and the gold metal components are well made and relatively heavy-weight. Although the set is unsigned, it is excellent quality, and it is in near excellent condition, with some very slight wear to the finish on the gold metal surfaces as its only issue.
