Talk about a labor of love! This absolutely stunning 1940s Sophie Original dress is back to its former glory. This dress was designed by Sophie Gimbel, an American fashion designer for Salon Moderne of Saks Fifth Avenue. She was a leading designer for nearly 40 years and an innovator of the “New Look” that gained popularity after World War II. She created many ready-to-wear fashions and is credited with introducing culottes to the American market. Her gowns were known for their simplicity, elegance, and use of expensive fabrics.

This piece originally had sleeves that I removed due to a really poor state of condition. The dress is silk with a wonderful tree and leaf print mixed with fuchsia paisley. There are a series of patches and mends all done by me to rescue this rare gem. Will you be her forever home?
