Lanz of California
40's Red Embroidered Wool Coat

This divine vintage coat from Lanz of California is from the 1940s, and was purchased at Neusteters in Denver. Neusteter Co., an elegant department store serving Denverites with high end fashion and extravagant storefront window displays. The original three store building, Phillipsborn & Co. was bought by Max Neusteter in July 1911. The Neusteter Co. was known as "the fashion empire of the Rocky Mountains".

This coat has a white curled lambswool collar, with a woven wool contrasting fabric in red. The pockets are on the front, with flaps over the front featuring the classic Lanz heart embroidered. Gorgeous metal floral buttons trail down the front. The bottom one has come loose but is still present and stored in the pocket. Classic 40's silhouette with bold shoulders and a nipped in waist. Length will end somewhere above knee on most. Lined in a cotton floral fabric that is backed with a flannel for extra warmth. This is a nice, heavy coat that will suit cold winters.

MEASUREMENTS:

Bust 39"

Length 34. 5"

Shoulder: 14. 25" between seams

Unfortunately this will need a few repairs before wear. There's a split seam at the waist and under the arm that need a bit of quick stitching (no tearing, just a seam pop), and one at the back of the neck by the collar. There's also a number of small holes/breaks in the wool particularly around the shoulder area. I added as many photos as Etsy would allow but please know there's some small breaks (nothing large or noticeable) in the wool and you can repair these or not, at your own discretion. I will take care of sewing the button back on before shipping, unless you request I do not.

Advertisement for same coat is from The Dayton Herald, November 6, 1944.
