This petite, red wool felt beret hat is a bit hard to date, as a truly classic style. My best guess, based on the smaller crown size and the construction, is circa 1940s-1950s. The hat is designed to perch on the head as shown, at a jaunty angle. (If you are looking for a larger, floppy beret that pulls down further on the head when worn, then this is not the one for you.) The center top of the crown has the required “cabillou”--the term for the little “stem” on top of a non-military beret. This classic topper will fit best on a smaller head size, although it can perch on most adult heads, with a bobby pin or 2 to keep it in place. This lipstick red, vintage wool beret is in excellent condition.
