Here's your opportunity to own a handmade piece of 1940's crafting history!
The women I bought this bag from had some fond memories of making these sorts of bags at a young age. Apparently, it was a very popular home craft for young ladies and women to buy pattern kits and make these bags in a variety of sizes and styles. I see them somewhat often, and they are always made of this rayon/viscose cording in black (silk was a scarce resource during the 40's due to it being rationed for parachutes during WWII). I particularly like our example of these bags because of the beauty of its craftsmanship, the scalloped edges and the adorable detail of the diamond knit zipper pull. The interior of this bag does have the maker's personal touch of adding baby blue decorative stitching in silk thread (again, a rare commodity during this era!) to the black acetate satin lining. There is a slip of cardboard giving the inner pocket structure. Zipper closure is a brass-colored metal Talon brand zipper and still slides with ease and is rust-free. Overall condition of bag is excellent with little-to-no wear and no flaws to note at all!
