40s Black Rayon Cocktail Dress Two Piece Shirred Waist$90.00
This 2-piece black rayon faille dress from the late 1940s pairs a slightly flared, skirt with a hip-length top. This fabulous top has a side zipper at the waist, a V-neckline with large, pointed collar, 2 rhinestone buttons, a half-belt at the back of the waist, and flattering gathers under the bust as well as shirring at the sides of the waist. The three-quarter-length sleeves have turned up cuffs, and the shoulders have medium-sized shoulder pads. The top is lined only at the wide waist panel with black rayon taffeta. The rest of the top and the skirt are unlined. The 6-gore skirt fastens with a metal side seam zipper and a hook at the waistband. It has 4 kick pleats at the hem, 2 in front and 2 in back. The lightweight faille fabric has a subtle, finely ribbed texture. In very good condition, this late 1940s skirt suit or 2-piece dress has one small issue: a faintly visible “scuff” in the surface of the fabric at the back of the left shoulder (see close-up photo). Otherwise, it is in great condition!
