This is one of the prettiest cameos I've ever seen! (I'm biased.) She has a lovely face, a wonderful Edwardian or Victorian hairstyle with a flower accent, and beautiful carving in the folds of her drape. A serene and beautiful expression.

She was made by the W. E. Richards company (they reversed the letters in the logo), a venerable company started in 1902. This particular hallmark was created in 1944, and I believe this piece was made soon afterward. The rope-twist frame and smooth bezel and electroplated in 12K gold.

What may look like a blemish on her cheek seems to be a feature of the shell. It isn't rough or stained; it's just a little different. She does, however, have a blue spot that seems to be ink on her drape. Try to think of it as a brooch and love her as she is.

True shell cameos are translucent and stay cool to the touch when you hold them--unlike resin, which is usually thicker and warms up when touched. Natural shell is curved on the back, while resin tends to be flat. Both can be beautiful, but now you know a few ways to tell the difference ...

From a nonsmoking, pet-positive environment.

Thank you for looking!
