From 1943 to 1950, House of Kraus designed amazing modern jewelry with a bit of art deco flair, establishing themselves as leading artists of the midcentury moment. They were located in Pittsburgh for those seven glorious years, using the H of K trademark.
This ring is an excellent example of their work. You know how popular camphor glass was in the 1930s--well, this is actual etched quartz, the material the Victorians used. A very small diamond with a good twinkle is set in white gold in the center of the quartz's rays. I love the big midcentury prongs holding the disk in place, and the glow of the solid yellow gold.
Condition is very good. There is some wear to the gold; the side photo shows the most significant little scratch, which you do not notice unless you are looking very, very closely. The quartz is a little cloudy around the central feature (the diamond); a jeweler could take care of that.
Measurements:
-ring size 7.5
-quartz face, north-south (exclusive of gold rim below): 3/4 inch
-bottom of ring face, including the gold rim: 7/8
-quartz face, east-west: about 3/8
