This is a classic men's gab overcoat, dating from late 1940s to early 1950s. It has quietly wonderful style and is water repellent! The coat is straight cut, with oversize lapels and moderately padded shoulders. The front buttonhole placket is hidden, except for the buttonhole on the lapel, which has uncut. Sleeves are cuffed. There are two outer angled handwarmer pockets, plus an inner chest pocket on the left. The coat has a single center back vent. There is a zipper for a winter lining - long gone.
SIZE: No size label
Chest - 43"
Shoulders - 18.25"
Length from back of neck - 44"
Sleeve length - 26"
FABRIC/COLORS: A nice heavy weight gabardine in a muted shade of grayish camel. Fiber burn test confirms wool. The partial lining is a satiny acetate-type fabric.
TAGS: The Genuine Gabardine, Tailored on Fifth Ave., New York. Treated with "Cravenette", Reg. U.S. Pat. Off. Long Life, WaterRepellent, Sheds Showers. Also an ACWA union tag inside the left inner pocket
CLOSURES: The coat closes with three large tortoisey plastic buttons.
CONDITION: There are small wear holes on bottom of each sleeve where the cuffs have natural folds - see closeup of the largest one, on the right sleeve. There is one more, smaller on the right and one only on the left. I have hand stitched open seam sections in the lining of the left armhole. There are a few small surface-looking dark marks on the left shoulder - see closeup. They may come out with dry cleaning, but no way to know for certain.
