I haven't been able to discover any information about the designer of this beautiful dress, Vaini of Milan, but I can easily see that this is a very special garment. It appears to be a haute couture piece, probably made in the 1950s, for a specific client. The waltz length dress has a dropped waist with an asymmetrical, ruched black velvet bustline. The skirt is quite full and would look fuller than it appears here with a petticoat underneath. It both hooks and zips on the side; the zipper is metal. The exterior shell is made with the finest green silk taffeta and lined in green silk; the black velvet is probably also silk. The zipper has been sewn in by hand, and there is also a great deal of hand stitching on the interior of the dress - additional signs that it came from a couture atelier in Milan. As you can see in the photos, the bust of the dress is smaller than our mannequin. The measurements indicate that it is a size 0 or XXS. Please refer to the measurements for the best guidance regarding size.*
