This is a dramatic wide brimmed hat, most likely dating to the 1940s or 1950s. The body of the hat is constructed like a Juliet cap with a flat top - that top forms the very shallow crown, while the rest of the cap sits underneath the wide brim. The cap drops to a peak at the back. The hat brim is wired to form a 1.5" platter edge below the rest of the brim. There is a narrow self-fabric outer hatband that ties in back. Decorative netting is shaped atop the brim in front and folds around the sides, anchored near the back underneath.

MATERIALS/COLORS: Dark blue felt, probably wool. It has good body; i.e., holds its structure. Inner hatband is grosgrain. There is dark blue netting.

CONDITION: There are breaks in the decorative netting, one rather large, along the left atop the platter. The thin elastic cord that was designed to go under the hair in back and stabilize the hat when worn has come undone at one end - the elastic is brittle anyway, and should be replaced, an easy fix if you want to use it. No other issues noted.
