A gorgeous, late 1940s skirt suit with peplum jacket in black wool gabardine with one issue: the original, longer-length pencil skirt was altered in the early 1990s, to reflect the preference for mini-length skirts at that time. The original, unaltered jacket has large shoulder pads, full-length sleeves with notched cuffs, a curvy, fitted waist shaped by neat, triangular-shaped insets, and a fantastic, hip-length flared peplum. The jacket buttons in front with 3 sets of double buttons. The matching, altered skirt has had length taken from its hem to create a new, extra-wide waistband. An invisible side zipper and 2 large hooks were added. The skirt waistband is wider at its top edge than at the lower seam, where it meets the rest of the skirt (see measurements)—probably intended to fit at the lower ribcage. The alterations have been professionally done, at least! The jacket has a black rayon crepe lining, while the skirt was re-lined in acetate taffeta. In excellent condition, this 1940s-meets-90s suit has no issues other than those related to the skirt alteration.
