40’s Skirt Suit Red Black Houndstooth Check Wool$125.00
This late 1940s skirt suit in black, red and off-white houndstooth wool pairs a shorter, fitted jacket with a slightly flared skirt, making it post-war era, but definitely still from the 1940s. The fabulous houndstooth fabric may be a bit much, visually, to show up clearly on some computer screens, but check out our close-up photos to see in in better detail. The high-hip-length jacket features wide notched lapels, square padded shoulders, three-quarter-length sleeves, and darts to create the fitted waist. Each of the jacket's two functional hip pockets is trimmed with a large plastic button below its notched opening. Wool fabric-covered buttons fasten the jacket in front. The jacket is lined with mauve rayon crepe fabric. The skirt is a few inches below knee-length on our tallish mannequin, it will appear longer on a more petite person. It is unlined, and fastens with a metal zipper and button at the side seam. In very good condition, this true vintage, houndstooth 1940s wool skirt suit has one small mend near the hem of the right sleeve, and one tiny munch near the front hem (see close-up photos).
