VINTAGE 40s GILBERT ADRIAN BLAZER | SIZE XS/S

A phenomenal piece of fashion history! This 40s Gilbert Adrian blazer is an extremely rare, yet wearable collector’s find in wonderful condition. An exquisitely structured, impeccably tailored 1940s jacket in crisp, sturdy silk twill. The fabric is ingeniously woven in an alternating horizontal stripes/double mini stripes pattern, with a foil of diagonal biased pieces at the upper sleeves, and vertical yoke fronts with a 1" overhang. The jacket features a slim collar, front welt pockets, sharp shoulder pads, faceted black glass button closure, and black crepe lining. A sublime beauty with loads of subtle visual interest. Label: Adrian Original. See more details below…

LABEL INFO: After almost 2 decades designing costumes for film at MGM Studios in Hollywood, Adrian left and opened his own clothing store in Beverly Hills. He created two retail lines: 'Adrian Original' for special couture creations and private clients, and 'Adrian Custom', his off-the-rack designs. A wildly popular and influential designer, Adrian was famous for introducing the quintessential ‘Joan Crawford’ silhouette of padded shoulders with slim waist jackets and dresses in his Hollywood film projects. He is largely credited with forging much of the glamour attributed to the many film stars he worked with, including Jean Harlow, Joan Crawford, Greta Garbo, Norma Shearer, Greer Garson, Katherine Hepburn, Jeanette MacDonald, Loretta Young, Myrna Loy, Luise Rainer, Hedy Lamar, and Lana Turner.

CONDITION:

Very good condition. There is some very minor fading at the top of the shoulders - hard to see and doesn’t show much in photos due to the lighting reflections. The top button near the collar is slightly bigger than the others, and is difficult to get through it’s buttonhole. I believe this one button is plastic so it's likely a replacement. Visually it’s exactly like the other buttons, just a tad bigger. The lining is also in very good condition, including the sleeves, with no flaws noted. Please contact me with any requests for additional photos or info.

SIZE:

No size tag. Best fits: XS-S (2-4 US / 6-8 UK)-->This is a size estimate. Please check measurements below to ensure proper fit. The jacket is lightly pinned back on the waist of the mannequin. If you'd like more measurements please contact me.
