All right, before you freak out ... This corset was made to help support the bump during pregnancy ... and perhaps to minimize it a little. It was not intended to squeeze the baby unbearably! It was also good for the belly post-delivery, as it needed a little support while Mom reduced.

Now that that's out of the way ... You will have a hard time finding another of these! This is the only one I've seen. It's in excellent, even mint condition--perhaps the owner never needed that kind of support.

You'll find elastic panels still pretty stretchy, peach laces that don't show wear, four garter buttons in great condition, even the fuzzy fabric by the hooks and eyes still fuzzy.

And ... Du Pont nylon! It was invented in 1935, so the label helps to date this garment. The faded label seems to read "6/B"--a size a lady could ask for when searching for such an item.

The color used to be called Rachelle; it's between peach and beige.

Whether you decide to wear this piece or keep it as a historical curiosity (as I did for years, while researching a novel set in the era), this is an amazing bit of clothing history.
