Length: 1.25 Inches; Width: 7/8 Inches
Materials: Glass, Silver
Style: Victorian
When I first saw this little brooch, I thought it was a Victorian mourning piece--but once I cleaned it up and had a look at the pin back, I saw that it's sterling and made in Mexico. I believe the black piece to be etched glass with silvering in the grooves. It's a definite Victorian style and so unusual! The looped filigree around the edges gives way to the glass piece, which is textured around *its* edges in a way that sparkles almost like rhinestones. Then there's the etching, which I believe to be grasses.
Who knows? Maybe it is a mourning piece. But since it has a locking pin clasp, it is probably from around the 1930s.
Hallmarked and tested for Mexico and sterling. ALC is a known maker from Guadalajara.
Really a beautiful, special piece!
