30s 40s Evening Black Velvet Maxi Dress

Late 1930s Early 1940s Evening Gown | Small | Late 30s 40s Black Velvet Maxi Dress | Femme Fatale Old Hollywood Glamour Velvet Gown

Features:

- super scrumptious soft thick velvet pile in black

- ruched bodice below shoulder seam and above waist

- tulip puffed shoulder split sleeve

- train back with a thread finger loop at the very tip of the train gown

- bottom bodice ruching seam in reverse U shape

- bias cut skirt with triangular bottom inserts

- wide loose cummerbund style waist band tie attached for the width of the bodice ruching but open on bottom and band so can be gathered more or to fall fully down for a longer torso

- ties sit at lower back right at gathered U shaped back seam to create a fuller back side look

- horse hair innerfacing of sleeve cuffs, neckline

- dress form measurements set to 34" bust/26" waist/39" hips and top of shoulder stands at 57" as shown

- gown is best for a size small

Closure: side Talon zipper that dates to the mid 1930s, bodice has hook and eye mid way, wide waist band is sew on at seam below bust and ties behind but not meant to gather the gown in but create a silhouette from the side angle and to show a drape that sits at the very low area of the back to accentuate the backside

Material: silk/viscose blend

Decade: late 1930s - very early 1940s

Brand/tags - no tags present

Condition - very good - one threadbare small spot on skirt less than 1/4" and only seen with light shining through, a few tiny holes near bottom of skirt shown in image, wide waistband stitched back on (was partially unstitched), old repair to back lower back gathered seam that sits above bottom, slight fading that is noticeable on one shoulder (shows as a dark brown and just slightly off from black of the gown- see images), repair to upper bodice ruching on lowest line left shoulder. It looks like someone prior to me resewed some seams that had come open. This gown silhouette is truly remarkable in person. I has not been cleaned but has no odors or stains.

Measurements: (taken flat and doubled when needed)

Gown - (all of these measurements are fluid due to bias cut of the gown that makes it expand for the bust/waist/hips but then shorten at the length when the bust/waist/hips widen)

Bust - 38”

Underbust - 30"

Waist - 28"

Waist tie - 69" X 12" at center front

Hips -

Length - 59" front top shoulder to bottom front hem (back is longer with slight train)

Shoulders - 15. 5"

Shoulder to waist - 15. 5"

Sleeve Inseam - 3. 5"

Sweep - 180" pulled wide but cut on bias so doesn't appear that wide when worn
