**History of the Fashion Originators Guild: The Fashion Originators Guild was formed in 1932 as a protection against knock-offs. Any manufacturer or retailer found to be dealing in knock-offs would be blacklisted and forbidden from dealing with members of the Guild. In 1936, their practices were brought into question by the Federal Trade Commission and, in 1941, the Supreme Court found that they violated the Sherman Anti-Trust Act, thereby putting an end to the Guild.
