This is a rolled gold, woven metal, mesh necklace. The necklace is a choker length of 16 inches and 3/8 inch wide. It appears to be woven throughout with another metal thread, holding the individual tiny metal bits together, letting them lay well on your neck. This style necklace was worn by twenties girls sporting the flapper style. usually with much longer chains to add a dramatic look. It closes with its original early disappearing spring clasp, which is connected to thin bars at each end. The mechanics of this necklace are unusual, to say the least.

This necklace is circa 1925 and made by a high end costume jewelry maker of the time. The first half of the 20th century was the heyday for well made costume jewelry sold from fine department stores to Woolworth, usually made in Europe or the United States. The manufacture and quality of costume jewelry deteriorated in the latter part of the century making this era the last with enduring products.
