This lovely, Art Deco greyhound necklace is from the early 20's. The greyhound is made of cast brass and has natural antiquing which helps show the detail in the dog, including his ribs, eyes and ears. The hatch marked base of the pendant is holding a black Bakelite and clear Lucite oval-cylinder bead. As a whole, the greyhound and bead pendant measures 1 x 1 inch. The hatch marked, cable chain is made of brass and measures 21 inches. It closes with a contemporary brass lobster claw, which was added since the original clasp was broken.

There are no marks or manufacturer name on this piece.

This metal, black Bakelite and Lucite necklace is circa 1925 and made by a high end costume jewelry maker of the time. Greyhounds were often used in Art Deco era jewelry and objects. The first half of the 20th century was the heyday for well made costume jewelry sold from fine department stores to Woolworth, usually made in Europe or the United States. The manufacture and quality of costume jewelry deteriorated in the latter part of the century making this era the last with enduring products.
