Marbled, pearlized celluloid and other early plastics are one of the great discoveries of the art deco era ... Here's a beautiful set of mostly Velva Pearl pieces (they also made faux pearls!), plus a couple that look as if they were made to go with the set.
Here's an inventory, with some measurements:
Velva Pearl
tray: length--10.75 inches ; width--7
nail buffer in box: length-- 5.25 ; width--5 ; height: 1.75 (including handle)
- nail scissors: too rusty to use, marked "Pyr Mayflower"
- round accessory box with lid and nice butterscotch-candy feet, stamped "Made in Halex England": 4.75 inches across, about 3.5 tall
- brush, stamped "Acwalite": 6.5 x 1.75 x 1.5 (tall)
These pieces may not have been made together, but they make a great blended family. They have a sort of Moorish sense of curve and point that is so Deco.
Condition is vintage good. All of these pieces saw some use, and there are little smutches and light scratches from use on all of them.
Please feel free to ask questions. I have another Velva Pearl box that looks nice with this set but has a design on top, so it didn't feel like part of the family yet.
From a nonsmoking, pet-loving environment (pets don't use this set to do their nails, though).
Thank you for looking!
