This is an old, rare celluloid pin back, measuring 1 and a quarter inches across. It is hard to say which May Co. store this is from, as there were several, in the early 1900s, some starting in the late 1800's. There is a torn paper insert in the back of the pin, explaining its origins and material. the edge reads BASTIAN BROS. CO., Rochester, N. Y.. Maybe you know someone who once worked at these stores. ?!?

Very good condition for its age, which is hard to determine. Celluloid was invented and produced, starting in the middle late 1800s. All I can really go by, for a date is the type face.

In 1889, May 1st was chosen as the date for International Workers' Day by the Socialists and Communists of the Second International to commemorate the Haymarket affair in Chicago.[3] International Workers' Day is also called "May Day", but it is a different celebration from the traditional May Day. If anyone knows more about the real date of this, please let me know.
