MUSEUM-QUALITY PIECE YOU WILL NOT FIND AGAIN~ So excited to be offering this mid-western estate piece. It is an AUTHENTIC 1900s Silk embroidered frock coat from Chiodo of Omaha (1890s - 1919; see history below) in amazing condition for its age. The lining has been restored (orig store tag put back in place), as has the ribbons on the hemline that had been tattered before. **Note that the new lining was inserted exactly as would have been in the 1900s...cuffs and hemline lining "pucker" slightly, rather then lie flat as they do today......From a Nebraska estate, this was lovingly restored for display, although it certainly could be worn. I would use it for display, myself, so as not to harm it......**Vincenzo Pietro Chiodo was born 1869 in Calabria, Italy. He arrived in Omaha at the age of 16 with his brothers Michele, Carmelo, and Lorenzo in 1885 and attended the Philip School of Design in Chicago, where he learned the trade of ladies’ tailor. He then worked for Abbott Brothers, Cunan & Company, and in the late 1890s started his own business which he continued through 1919. By 1906 he had become secretary of the Omaha Italian Club; a decade later he carried out his “master stroke,” purchasing the old county jail and courthouse, then importing skilled masons from Italy who re-used the materials to build the Florentine, Carpathia, Leone, and Chiodo Apartments. In 1920 was considered Omaha’s only Italian millionaire. **.............****Coat is in Very Good antique condition for its age - Silk is in fabulous condition, although there is slight color turning in spots commensurate with age - VISIBLE IF YOU ARE LOOKING CLOSELY, ONLY; ie, Silk on sleeve and top bodice are slightly darker. The embroidery and soustache are ORIGINAL; We have left the loose pieces of embroidery AS IS to keep the integrity of the piece, but they could easily be sewn back down. ALL IN ALL - MUSEUM QUALITY FOR ITS AGE.......Fits modern XS......42" long, 30 - 34" bust, OPEN waist/hips, 14" across shoulders, 22" leg of mutton sleeve.
