10s/Edwardian Starched Cotton Cuffs With Silk Embroidery$30.00
Ready to fancify your vintage or antique blouse or dress?...
This set of two gauntlet style cuffs are meant to be sewn onto the sleeve of a garment, but because of their size and its bitty, teeny-weeny little snaps, you could wear them alone! This set is especially fancy and has details on it that I've seen on many Edwardian, circa 1900-1908 pieces, however, it is possible these are as recent as 1930's. They are handmade, using very old woven cotton fabric. At one end, very delicate bobbin lace has been hand-stitched into place, while the other side has been scallop-edge finished. Five/six little metal snaps serve as the cuff closure. Throughout both cuffs are three sprays of flowers, with branches. These embroideries (satin stitch & French knots) and the scallop-edge finish are all done with silk twist yarn thread (this helps explain why the hue of blue is slightly different between the two cuffs, as silk is sensitive to light). Cuffs are still very stiff from all the starching over the years, despite being stain treated and washed! In truly excellent condition, with the aforementioned slight color difference, and then very mild yellow stains remain. Please review photographs for full details.
