The Veronica: Vintage 40s Gimp Corde Crocheted Purse with Clear Lucite Handles Scalloped Edge, Waldes Kover-Zip, Wwii Style$60.00
During WWII, when fabric rationing became prevalent, gimp corde handbags took off. This sweet example is crocheted from corde and finished off with a very cool set of twisted clear lucite handles. Many women bought patterns for these bags and made them, themselves.
This example dates from the early to mid 1940s. It has two built-in pockets and a top zip that's still in excellent shape. The scalloped edge on this one is particularly cute. It is most definitely a handbag, not a shoulder bag.
The bag has a small, not very noticeable, spot of discoloration (pictured), and a rip to its lining right above the zipper on one side (also pictured). Otherwise, it's in excellent shape.
