VOLUP 1950’s/early 60’s Cotton seersucker wiggle dress and matching bolero set by the iconic American label Nelly Don.

Ellen "Nell" Quinlan Donnelly Reed helped set the precedent for stylish, affordable women’s clothing and influenced the ready-made American clothing industry for decades.

There have been museum exhibitions of her day dresses and even a musical made about her life.

Nell, who wore a size 16, often took popular designs for slim women and adapted them for larger figures. The company also produced clothing made of washable fabrics for working women. Her ability to produce both contemporary and traditional fashions made her company popular with women of all ages and social classes. An estimated one in seven women wore Nell’s dresses. (source: Historic Missourians)
