Before Victoria’s Secret there was Frederick's of Hollywood. Founded in 1947, Frederick's of Hollywood sells bras, panties, corsets, hosiery robes, bedroom slippers and other special occasion intimate apparel. The chain of stores usually found in shopping malls across the U.S. was founded by Frederick Mellinger the inventor of the push-up bra.
Its flagship store was a Hollywood, California landmark as it occupied a space on Hollywood Boulevard for 59 years. All the stores closed in 2015 and many thought that it was the end of an era. New owners relaunched the most popular brand in lingerie in the 1980s three years after its closing.. For those that remember the king of sexy lingerie – many vintage shoppers search for the original vintage intimates when Frederick's of Hollywood was in its prime. In recent years the lingerie as clothing trend has ushered Fredrick’s of Hollywood back into the limelight. Paired with vintage jumpsuits and vintage pants, Fredrick’s of Hollywood’s statement bras, pajama tops, camisoles, and corsets have been used as layering pieces under blazers and sweaters, and slips have turned into mini dresses for a night out.
