Vintage Black Silk Polka Dot Maxi Dress$275.00- Empire Waist Dresses
This vintage wiggle dress from Gianni Versace has an empire waist below which it buttons all the way to the bottom of this near-maxi length dress. Thankfully, it also has a side zipper, so you can take it on and off without having to deal with fourteen buttons (I have a hunch that it is meant to be worn with several of the lower buttons undone). The top of the dress comprises two layers: The bottom layer is a regular scoop neck tank style with a larger dot print that the rest of the dress. The top layer that drapes is open at the sides and attached only at the waist. The fabric is silk, and although the dots look white in the photos, they are actually light beige. The dress is not lined, but the outer layer of the top is lined in black silk charmeuse. I was having difficulty dating this dress until I found a picture of the same label with the reference to "Sera" on a 1980s dress in the fashion collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Labeled Italian size 40, which in vintage sizing generally corresponds to a modern US size 2 or 4. Please refer to the measurements for additional guidance regarding size.
- Chest is 35" measured at the underarms of the bottom layer.
- Empire waist is 30" This measurement is about 4" below the chest measurement.
- Hips are about 36"
- Length is 33" down center back.
This dress looks like it was never worn except for what looks like an alteration at the shoulder seams on the bottom layer of the top of the dress.
